# hi > hi is a single-binary CLI for hi5 machines and projects: it rents remote GPUs > (Google Colab, Hugging Face Jobs, RunPod, Shadeform) with `hi compute`, starts > projects from templates with `hi init`, sets up Ubuntu workstations with > `hi install`, turns plain-words requests into shell commands with `hi q`, > downloads your team's private Hugging Face data through a hi server with > `hi data`, and puts a local service on a temporary public address with > `hi net expose`. These notes are for coding agents such as Codex and Claude Code. ## Instructions for agents 1. Check whether hi is installed: `hi version`. If it is not, install the CLI only (no sudo, no system changes) with `curl -fsSL https://hi5.sh/install.sh | sh`; the binary lands in `~/.local/bin/hi`. 2. Load the hi skill, which matches the installed version and holds the rules you must follow. Print it with `hi skill --print`. To keep it for later sessions, ask the user before running `hi skill add hi --global` (every project) or `hi skill add hi` (this folder only). 3. Follow the skill rather than this page. The short version of its rules: ask before starting paid hardware and show the `--dry-run` plan first; always set `--max`; stop what you start and check `hi compute ls`; pass credentials with `--secret`, never `--env`; never approve your own requests on a hi server; and ask before `hi install`, `hi adduser`, `hi net`, or `hi update`, which change the machine. Get your team's data with `hi data`, never with a Hugging Face token of your own. Ask before `hi net expose`, keep its password, never use `--public` without the user's yes, and stop it when done. 4. Run `hi help`, `hi compute help`, or `hi init --help` for the exact options. ## Guide - [Your first remote GPU](https://hi5.sh/guide/quickstart/): sign in, run a script, stop it - [Let your coding agent use a GPU](https://hi5.sh/guide/tutorials/agent/): what to ask an agent, and what it does - [Skills](https://hi5.sh/guide/reference/skill/): `hi skill` finds, installs, and updates agent skills from skills.sh, and writes the hi skill - [All commands](https://hi5.sh/guide/reference/commands/): every command and option - [Hand tasks to agents](https://hi5.sh/guide/agent/): `hi agent`, Claude Code, Codex, or Hermes on a task in a box, without permission prompts, with one report for every agent, and `--bundle web, office, data` for skills and the tools they need; `hi agent best-of` runs one task in several boxes, checks each, and ranks them, or with `--score` runs rounds that commit only gains, and `--then ""` runs a command when they end - [Run a team in Slack](https://hi5.sh/guide/team/): `hi team`, a virtual team of agents in one Slack channel: a Hermes lead talks with the people in plain language and keeps the specs, a coder and a reviewer work in boxes, and the lead merges what the reviewer approves; `hi team key openrouter` and `hi team env KEY=VALUE` give the team its own OpenRouter key and the app its settings, and the app calls models at `$OPENROUTER_BASE_URL` without holding a key; `hi team snapshot`, `snapshots`, `restore`, and `backups` keep the lead's memory, the team's record, and the app's data (`$HI_DATA_DIR`) in restic snapshots, daily and before every release, optionally copied to an S3 bucket - [Run code in a box](https://hi5.sh/guide/box/): `hi box`, a shell or a command in a rootless container with no credentials and a limited network, set up per project in `devcontainer.json` (`customizations.hi`, including `bundles`) - [Share a local service](https://hi5.sh/guide/workstation/expose/): `hi net expose `, a temporary public address for a service on this machine; ask the user first - [Download your team's data](https://hi5.sh/guide/data/): `hi data`, your team's private Hugging Face datasets, models, and buckets through the hi server, on laptops, in boxes, in cloud jobs (`hi compute run --data`), and on machines you SSH into (`hi compute up --data`) - [Ask for a command](https://hi5.sh/guide/q/): `hi q`, for people at a terminal; agents don't need it - [Start a project](https://hi5.sh/guide/projects/): `hi init` templates, `--update`, and `--adopt` - [Troubleshooting](https://hi5.sh/guide/reference/troubleshooting/): messages and what to do ## Optional - [Install hi](https://hi5.sh/guide/install/): installer options and updating - [Managed compute for your team](https://hi5.sh/guide/compute/managed/): requests and approvals through a hi server - [Source](https://github.com/hi5sh/hi)
